Description
A devoted father, beloved husband and popular television weatherman, Oskar appears to be enjoying the prime of his life. Then comes a bad case of the seven-year itch, in this contemporary comedy by accomplished Czech director Jan Hrebejk (Teddy Bear, MVFF 2008). Before long, Oskar’s wife finds he’s having an affair with their lusty au pair. But the young woman’s student life wears thin on Oskar, who soon waxes nostalgic for the folk songs, and the much older folk singer, that 20 years earlier helped usher in the Velvet Revolution, Czechoslovakia’s peaceful bid to extricate itself from the yoke of Soviet-led Communism. Not unlike that seminal historic moment, Oskar seeks and achieves an unsettling change in the colorful atmosphere of a much-changed Prague, where timeless architecture and archetypes nevertheless remain the same.
