2 States (2014) is a film in the romantic-comedy genre directed by Abhishek Verman. The film is based on Chetan Bhagat’s best-selling novel of the same name and stars Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles. The film received good reviews from the critics and is hugely successful at the box office as well, with an overall collection of more than 100 crores. Krish (Arjun Kapoor) and Ananya (Alia Bhatt) meet at IIM Ahmedabad. They become friends and Krish promises to help Ananya with her Economics paper. However, during their study sessions, Krish realise that he is insanely attracted to the beautiful Ananya. Consequently, he starts avoiding her because he feels that he can never be just friends with Ananya. Ananya fails to understand why Krish’s behaviour has undergone this sudden change and she finally decides to confront him. Confronted by Ananya, Krish finally tells her the truth. Ananya kisses him and makes him realise that she feels the same for him as well. They both fall madly in love with each other and decide to tell their parents about each other at their convocation but, now the real problem arises as both of them belong to different cultural background. Krish comes from a conservative Punjabi household while Ananya is a Tamil Brahmin. Their parents take a strong disliking for each other at their very first meeting but, Krish and Ananya resolve to make them agree to their wedding, no matter how hard the situation gets and no matter what they have to do. They promise to get married only with their parents’ blessings. Will Krish and Ananya emerge successful in their mission or will the clash of cultures lead their relationship to inevitable doom marks the rest of the story.
