Description
This CD gathers 25 tracks including some of the best full-length 1947 pre-recordings sourced from original Goldwyn Studios acetates; cuts from Capitol’s “Giants Of Jazz” CC-106 album whose sales proceeds benefited the Damon Runyon Memorial Fund for Cancer Research; several alternate versions of songs from the film that were issued by competing record labels; highlights from a special 1948 radio broadcast promoting the Runyon Memorial Fund and featuring one of the film’s musical stars, Louis Armstrong, aired from the famous Blue Note jazz club in Chicago with fellow jazz masters Jack Teagarden and Earl Hines as sidemen in Satchmo’s band; and an additional, spirited bonus performance of A Song Is Born from a 1949 Armed Forces Radio Service “Jubilee” show. Certain of these audio selections have never been released commercially, while others which may be more familiar take a fitting place as part of this package.
